Pink Himalayan Salt

Ever wonder if Pink Himalayan salt is different from table salt? Well, pink salt actually contains up to 98 percent sodium chloride which is exactly the same as table salt. What’s cool about pink salt is its trace minerals such as potassium, magnesium and calcium. These minerals are what gives Himalayan salt its pink hue, and also a slightly different taste than regular table salt.

When used properly, research has shown that salt can reduce the risk of infection and even kill harmful bacteria. Whenever I feel a sore throat coming on, I immediately start a regimen of gargling salt for at least 30 seconds, morning and night. I like to use Sea Salt or Himalayan salt over regular table salt as regular salt tends to have additives. Manufacturers heavily refine the salt and add anti-caking agents into salt to prevent clumping (sodium aluminosilicate, magnesium carbonate).

All salts should be used in moderation. When cooking, abstain from using salt until serving the food. That way I can add a small pinch to my portion and know exactly how much I’m consuming. Try to look for low sodium broths, condiments and sauces. Many companies load their products with sodium to increase the flavor profile. One company I trust for condiments is Primal Kitchen. They use quality ingredients (mostly organic) and have reasonable, if not low sodium levels. Their products are Paleo, Keto and some are even vegan approved! One of my all time favorite anti-inflammatory salad dressings is the Primal Kitchen Lemon Turmeric dressing! It’s insanely addicting and worth every penny, especially if you’re not someone who likes salads. It’s worth it, trust me.

Pink salt is used for many therapeutic reasons as well. Have you ever taken a salt bath? The minerals in Himalayan salt make it the perfect go to for a relaxing treatment. Salt washes can also help with acne, foot fungus, nasal congestion, ear infections, psoriasis, sore joints and muscles, poison oak, wounds and blisters.

I think it’s safe to say that you should check out Himalayan Pink Salt and always have some on hand. I like to buy mine in bulk as it’s more cost effective. You can buy it in the larger granules or in tiny crystals. Either way, you’ll be prepared for whatever life throws at you!
